The methodology game

The Methodology game is a fun and engaging game to help lead group discussions around the differences between waterfall, agile, lean startup and lean approaches to delivering initiatives.  Using the choose my approach guide, people from the group pick random cards from a pack of 'initiatives', vote on which approach they would choose and then have a brief group chat about their reasons.  There are no right answers, the best learning happens when people disagree.

Instructions

Give each person a set of four approach cards (Waterfall, Agile, Lean Start up, Lean).  Spread the cards face down in the middle of the group.  Ask someone to turn a BLUE card over.  Give people 10 seconds to think then ask everyone to hold up the approach card they would use at the same time.  Ask those in the minority why they made the choice they did.  Repeat with BLUE cards until bored.  Then start with RED cards (much harder).  Encourage discussion as there are no right or wrong answers.  Stop when you’ve all had enough.
